First week
For my first post is "Donde Esta La Playa" a song by the band "The Walkmen" from their 2008 album "You & Me".
The Walkmen are a relatively unknown band that formed in 2000 and released their first album "Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone" in 2002 and since then have been releasing an album every two years. The band is composed of five members Hamilton Leithauser(vocals) Pete Baur(organist/bassist) Walter Martin(guitarist) Matt Barrick(drummer) and Paul Maroon(bassist/organist).Their earlier albums are heavier than their newer stuff like lisbon and you & me. Leithauser's gravelly and unique vocals along with haunting organ pieces from Baur, a sonic edge from Martin and the intense presence of Barrick on the drums all amounts to a fantastic and unique sound from the band.Clear influences are Bob Dylan, The Doors, U2 and R.E.M.In Leithauser's words the band experienced a "Renaissance" with their fourth album "You & Me".An altogether more easygoing experience than "A hundred Miles Off" You & Me had a worn traveller theme going on through the album and my favourite track is Donde Esta La Playa. The song deals with rejection "Goodnight,Keep your shirt on you can leave the way you came" but it really is a beautiful tune and Leithauser captures the mood brilliantly.
If anyone has any thoughts/corrections/suggestions drop a comment.
